Death-Dealing Diesel? No! It’s the 2017 Ford GT At Idle! [w/ Video] |Stadium Auto Arlington TX

The magnetism of the Ford GT is so strong that the gaggle of lenses and gawkers surrounding the car at the North American International Auto Show left the GT350R and new Raptor practically ignored on their turntables. Either one of those machines would normally draw a throng of folks strong enough to generate its own minor gravitational field, yet the GT yanked the spotlight from both, as well as everything else in Cobo Center.

In a year that saw the reveal of the new CTS-V, the Alfa 4C Spider, the refreshed BMW M6, and the long-awaited production-spec appearance of the Acura NSX, that’s no mean feat.

But the niggling question hangs in the minds of many—what does FoMoCo’s new supercar sound like? It’s a longstanding jab at the Viper that the V-10 snake sounds like a United Parcel Service vehicle at idle. Scratch that. The GT is the new king of the demonic delivery trucks. The 3.5-liter V-6 garble-gargles through its high-mounted tailpipes, while the twin turbos send their barbaric whirring hiss echoing through the taillight tubes. If Steven Spielberg’s Duel were remade by Michael Bay, it’s the noise the film’s menacing Peterbilt would make at rest. Watch the clip below to see what we mean.
